To build your ‘Perfect Door’, use the following pages to input the details of the highspeed roller door you require and select from the various options that are available to choose from, starting below with the width and height of the opening (in millimetres). At Union Industries, we are both designers and manufacturers of rapid rise doors and so if you do not see everything you need on the following pages – or require something more bespoke – please contact us and we will be more than happy to look at your individual door requirements.

Is the door internal or external?
*
Internal
External
Certain doors in our range are designed to be used on internal openings and some are for external openings – with certain doors suitable for both. It is vitally important when selecting a rapid roll door that it is specified correctly for the environment, as doors for external openings need to achieve a minimum Class 2 for resistance against wind loads. Please select one of the options.
Is it a freezer door?
*
Yes
No
There are two doors in the Union range that are suitable for use on industrial cold store openings where regular traffic is apparent and so a fast-operating door is required to help maintain the integrity of the freezer environment. If your requirement has a sub-zero degrees area on one or both sides of the opening, select ‘Yes’. If not, then select ‘No’.
What type of traffic will be predominantly using the door?
*
Forklifts
Pedestrians
Pallet Trucks
Conveyors
Fast acting doors can be used by numerous types of traffic and in various environments, so please select the most appropriate option to help us determine the best door from the Union range to suit your application.
Will the door be subject to light or heavy wind loads?
*
Heavy Wind Loads
Light Wind Loads
Rapid Roll Doors on external openings are exposed to wind pressures – some greater than others – and so it’s important that the door is specified correctly in order to cope with the appropriate wind speeds. The minimum rating for an external high speed door is Class 2 for wind resistance, which provides a door that can cope with the everyday UK weather, namely light wind loads. However, where the opening is more exposed, facing due-west or the coast, a fast acting door with a Class 5 resistance to cope with heavy wind loads would be better suited.
Are there any internal air pressures on the door?
*
Medium Pressures
No or Low Pressures
Unlike external openings, internal doorways are not subject to direct wind pressures however, can still experience substantial pressures due to through-drafts as a result of external doors being open. In certain facilities – such as pharmaceutical, food manufacturing and high-precision engineering such as aerospace – positive or negative pressures are commonplace and so this needs to be considered in the specification of a high speed door.
Does it require a stainless steel or powder coat frame?
*
Powder Coat
Stainless Steel
Don’t know
Quick roller doors are utilised in many different industry sectors and in various environments, some of which can require the steelwork of the door to be stainless (grade 304) rather than the standard polyester powder coated finish. Amongst others, certain food industry applications require a stainless steel finish in wash-down locations and some pharmaceutical facilities require stainless steel for hygiene reasons. Please select one option.
Blade/Curtain Colour
*
Red
Yellow
Blue
White
Grey
The main visible part of any fast acting door is it’s blade, sometimes known as curtain. There are several colour options to choose from for various doors in the Union range, some of which are for high-visibility reasons and others purely for aesthetics so the doors match their surroundings. Please choose one of the colour options shown.
How do you want the door to operate?
Radar Motion Sensor
Push Button
Pull Cord
Radio Control
Induction Loop
Photocell
High speed roller doors are generally fully automatic in their operation – auto-open / auto-close – although certain applications are better suited to a more manual type of activation method. What’s good for one door in terms of activation / operation isn’t necessarily good for another, and as experts in our field, we are here to guide you and give you our best advice, to ensure the door operation system gives you and your company the best benefits. Select one of more from the few activation method examples shown.
Which additional features and optional extras would you prefer?
Traffic Lights
Airlock
Blade Text/Logo
Impact Protection System
Flashing Beacons
Audible Alarms

We have many standard additional features available on our industrial doors – and because we design and manufacture, we can in most cases also accommodate any non-standard features or requirements you may have – just contact us to discuss further. Below are just a few optional extras that are available as standard, whether it’s a specific additional safety device or to protect it from impact, you can have what you want. Lead times for rapid action doors vary tremendously from supplier to supplier, with many doors on the market from European manufacturers quoting 4 to 5 months to supply new doors! With Union Industries being a UK manufacturer, we are very much in control and have materials, components & parts on stock to ensure quick turnarounds for new doors can be achieved, if necessary. Selecting one of the timescale options below will assist us in our planning.
