Wolves serve victory on Plate

Woodkirk Valley Wolves under 13’s came away from the Yorkshire Cup in Huddersfield with smiles on their faces, after deservedly winning some silverware.

The competition saw three days of action, and the Wolves had to work hard to go into the last day with a chance of winning something.

They had already knocked out Bradford team BD3, Spen Valley Schools FA and Dalton Juniors for Cumbria – a game which they won 5-2 after Billy Phillips scored a first-half hat-trick – when they faced Deighton Juniors from Huddersfield in the semi-finals.

The game was very tight, but a superb first-half free-kick proved the difference between the two sides and Deighton progressed through to the final.

All was not lost for the Wolves, however, as they went on to beat Brighouse 3-2 in the Plate final, with goals from Billy Phillips, Jehedul Haque and Luke Porritt giving them victory.

The club also received the fair play award for their age group, testament to the good spirit in which they played the game.
