Union Industries secures multi-site Customer Fulfilment Centre door installation project

Union Industries, the UK’s leading manufacturer of high-speed industrial doors, is increasing its support for customers with the appointment of an experienced project co-ordinator to oversee significant new build developments, including Customer Fulfilment Centres (CFC).

Simon Casewell will be responsible for managing large scale projects from point of order through to delivery as Union Industries further strengthens its capabilities and expertise for its customers and project stakeholders.

With a background in construction and a wealth of experience in project management, Simon has responsibility for Union Industries’ portfolio of blue-chip clients, including those in the Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) sector.

The Leeds-based company has a strong track-record in the sector and has experienced a growth in its FMCG order book in the past 12 years as customers respond to consumer demand, particularly for goods ordered online.

Among the first projects under Simon’s management is the supply and installation of 28 high speed doors across three new CFCs for Ocado Group in Bristol, Andover in Hampshire and Purfleet in Essex.

Ocado Group is a UK based technology company, which provides an end-to-end online grocery fulfilment solution to some of the world’s largest grocery retailers, including Ocado Retail, a 50/50 joint venture with M&S. It has developed a robust supply chain featuring UK companies, such as Union Industries, to support the development and operation of its facilities.

Each site features a number of Union Industries’ rapid-roll doors to meet a range of requirements, including Bulldoors for larger internal openings, Matadoors for smaller internal openings between ambient and chill environments, and Eiger doors for freezer applications.

The highly robust Bulldoor is widely used in many different applications throughout all industry types and is especially recognised in retail distribution for very high traffic use openings between chilled and ambient environments.

Manufactured from heavy duty materials and components, the Matadoor is ideally suited for high volume traffic, whether forklift trucks or personnel.

Suitable for internal openings only from ambient and chill to freezer temperatures down to -30 degrees Celsius, the Eiger door has quickly become the favoured quick access traffic door for all the major food retailers, 3PL cold storage and distribution, and frozen food manufacturers in the UK since it was introduced to the market in 2002.

Simon Casewell, Project Co-ordinator at Union Industries, said: “I’m delighted to have joined Union Industries at what is a hugely exciting time for the company and to work with a growing client base, such as Ocado Group, in the CFC sector on a day-to-day basis is a real privilege.

“In the past 12 months there has been an increase in new build developments in the FMCG market and we are successfully building relationships that is leading to the specification of our fast-acting, highly-robust industrial doors.”
