Additional/Optional Safety Features

FOR PEDESTRIAN PROTECTION

OR PEDESTRIAN WARNINGS

There will be times when it is impracticable or impossible to accomodate the Stand-off Sensing Devices to both front and rear of the doorway, as recommended by the HSE for doors of pedestrian usage. In some instances only one side of the opening will lend itself to this type of protection and warning devices must be considered.

Alternatively there are sites where end users are already committed to a rigorous and exacting Health & Safety regime and whose policy it is to exceed the minimum safety requirement in their efforts to reduce accidents and avert the risk of litigious claims.

The following additional safety options are available, most of which are suitable for both Pedestrian and Forklift doorways.

Safety Cloak

(Secondary sensing device)

Manual Activation

Recommended for all doors where pedestrian usage is ALLOWED or UNAVOIDABLE.

Activation most suitable for manual ‘OPEN' and manual ‘CLOSE' operation include -

  • Pull Cord Switches
  • Radio Control
  • Push Button (Double Push Buttons or Red Mushroom)
  • Photocell

AUDIBLE WARNINGS

  • Sounders
Typically fitted to the top of and link wired into the Control Panel to sound an alarm of the operation of the door in a variety of ways.

    e.g.
To sound 2 seconds before the door blade closes and throughout the closing cycle.
To sound continuously throughout the opening and closing cycles.

NOTE - Account must be taken of existing sound levels when considering this device.

Visual Warnings

Link wired into the Control Panel to provide a variety of warning options in a similar manner to those of the Audible Warnings referred to above.

  • Flashing Beacons
Typically fitted above head height and to both front and rear of the doorway to warn those approaching that the door is about to close.

  • Indicator Lights
Typically Red and Green light unit fitted to one or both sides of a doorway or Airlock, to warn of oncoming traffic in a two-way system or to warn that an Airlock is in use.

  • Traffic Lights
Heavyweight and larger version of the Indicator Lights above with Red and Green ‘Stop' and ‘Go' lights housed in a cowled bulkhead fitting. Typically fitted to external doorways to regulate and control the safe flow of traffic through the opening.
  • Warning Text
In addition to the warning text recommended by the HSE for all non-pedestrian doors, it is good practice to include safety text on the blades of doors where pedestrian use is permitted or unavoidable to draw their attention to the fast acting operation of Hi-Speed Doors. The text should read -
