Eiger Door™ Standard Specification

back to Eiger Door

Crash-Out & Auto Reset : Eiger Door™ includes the unique 'Crash-Out & Auto Reset' facility for which Union's range of Hi-Speed Doors is famous. The purpose of this feature is to minimise bottom beam and door blade damage following impact by forklift trucks, which is an all too common a problem, resulting in down-time and excessive repair costs.
Door Blade Type:

Fully opaque 750g/m² double coated PVC coated polyester pre-contraint substrate, Fire Retardant to B1/BS 5438, DIN 4102 Acrylic Fluotop anti-dirt and anti-static surface treatment to both sides.
Double-skinned construction separated by 100 mm thermal gap and reinforced by integral steel wind braces concealed within horizontal pockets with vertical edges having double thickness 800g/m² PVC coated double panama rub strips to resist wear and increase the life of the blade, with all seams HF welded.

Door Blade Colour:

Main Body - White
Rub Strips - Blue.

Columns & Side Guides: Twin 120 mm x 120 mm x 5 mm thick square hollow section steel columns. 160 mm deep x 3 mm thick pressed steel blade guides (bolt-on construction for quick and easy replacement), finished in Grade 304 Stainless Steel, terminating in high density black polyethylene machine cappings, and each leading edge fitted with integral guide brushes comprising 2 twin runs of 50 mm x 30 mm HDPE rubbing strips supporting 50 mm wide nylon brush strips.
Fundamental to the circulatory dry air conditioning system is the segmental 50 mm x 30 mm RHS Stainless Steel central pillar fitted between and separating each pair of columns.
Top Roller: 2 off 168.5 mm diameter x 4 mm wall steel tube terminating at each end with stepped 30/35 mm diameter stub shafts running in self aligning bearing units, speed synchronised via twin 5/8" pitch simplex chain drives at each side with trans-torque collect type bushes incorporated for accurate and independent fine rotational adjustment.
Bottom Bar: Composite construction: 2 off 50 mm x 30 mm rectangular hollow section steel separated by steel spacers, sandwiched between two 3 mm pressed Grade 304 Stainless Steel bottom bar pressings. Each beam fitted with 'C' channel to take the 'Gelbau' Safety Edge Contact Profile and supplied with PVC coated polyester Safety Edge Protector and PVC covered foam Safety Buffers. Flexible 'break-out' tabs bolted to each end of the leading beam.
Finish: Columns, back-bar, brackets, etc, de-greased, blast cleaned, then pre-treated with 'Akzo Nobel Interpon' anti-corrosive primer before being finished with 'Interpon AB' anti-bacterial hygienic powder coating in standard white to RAL 9003. Side guides and bottom bar pressings finished in Grade 304 Stainless Steel, polished satin/dull.
Drive: 1.5Kw foot mounted brake geared motor unit driving the top roll via a 5/8" pitch simplex chain drive (17T/24T reduction).
Speed: Door Opening: Variable up to 1.6 m/sec (maximum)
Door closing: Variable up to 0.7 m/sec (maximum)
Control:

Control system incorporates the essential functional components of a multi-functional door controller. Combined with an inverter, the system allows smooth starting and stopping thus reducing mechanical wear. The system allows precise adjustment of parameter settings to control the door under normal use with full safety monitoring.
Control housed in 500 mm x 500 mm x 210 mm deep IP54 rated cabinet, powder coated red, c/w Perspex diagnostic viewing window, 'Open' push button, 'Close' push button and emergency stop button.

Brush Damper: A continuous flexible 4" brush strip fitted across the full width of the top roll to front and rear of the door acts as a 'damper' to limit the swing of the door blades as they reach the top of their travel during normal operation or following 'Crash-Out' after impact, enabling the blades to re-locate into the side guides and also provides a secondary sealing medium.
Sealing & Insulation: The effectiveness of the seals and insulated to combat the cold transfer from the Freezer to the metal components and blade cavity is all important to the correct functioning of the door and the efficient operation of the Freezer.
The standard fixing position of the Eiger Door is 200 mm inboard on the Ambient side of the opening to accommodate the 2 off 2 mm x 300 mm deep galvanised and powder coated seals infill the gap between the rear column and the Freezer wall, enclosing a 120 mm 'Rockwool' filled cavity with additional insulation provided by the fitting of a double skinned PVC foam encapsulated thermal jacket to the rear side guide and inside face of the side seal.
Top Seal/Back-Bar: A 1`00 mm x 10 mm square steel hollow section back-bar fitted across the full width of the door at the top, to which the brush damper is affixed, also fulfils the role of column spacer and acts as an integral part of the dry air ducted system.
Top Roll Hood Cover: The fully enclosing hood cover constructed in overlapping 16 SWG powder coated sections, supported by substantial sub-frame and base frame is an essential part of the conditioned air circulation system and additionally provides a warm air reservoir for the protection of the double top rolls, drive motor and transmission drive gear.
It provides the support necessary to carry the dehumidifier and its associated ductwork.
Dry Air Circulation System: Dry conditioned processed air is generated via the independent dehumidifier system and circulated through the Eiger Door's™ double skinned door blades utilising the columns and a series of ducts and galleries.
Spillage of the warmed and conditioned air is designed to escape through the brush seals into the opening on the Ambient and Freezer sides to promote the reduction of ice formation around the opening and across the door threshold through the process of sublimation.
The circulated air further benefits from the addition of 2 x 1kW In-Line heaters (only on doors without 'Eiger 1000' dehumidifier) controlled by a Thermostat and Thermo-couple to boost the temperature of the conditioned, processed air.
Safety:

Double 'Through Beam' Photo-electric Cells - One transmitter fitted on the face column and one fitted on the reverse side at low level, with receivers mounted on the opposite columns, all with heated lenses to prevent the formation of ice which would otherwise occur and to enable the 'fail to safe' function to operation in sub-zero temperatures.
IP67 rated photocells, protected by heavy duty steel covers.
To prevent the door from closing when anything is detected beneath it, or immediately adjacent to the opening on either side.
Double Contact Safety Edge - Low voltage electronic contact safety edge, full length of both bottom beams, to prevent the door from fully closing when anything is detected within the door opening. Detected of an obstruction will immediately stop the door during its closing cycle then cause the door to re-open to its full height.
Safety Buffers -- Foam filled padded buffers attached on face and reserve sides of the bottom beam, full width, in order to give additional protection for pedestrian users.
Manual Brake Release - Pull cord to release the brake lever in order to raise the door with minimal manual assistance in the event of a power failure.
Closure of the door in the event of power failure is achieved by detaching one of the counterweight webbings, and releasing the brake using the Manual Brake Release Pull Cord whilst applying a slight downward pressure to the door blade.
CE Compliance - Eiger Door™ complies with the essential Health & Safety requirements of the latest EC Machinery Directives.
